Michelle's cancer story
1995 - Vaginal Cancer Laser Surgery

The many 'visits' with my oncologist through 1995 and early 1996 included three laser surgeries to address cancerous lesions in the vaginal vault.

Between the dedication of my husband and friends there was always someone to come with me to help with the traveling from clinic to home for recovery.

The procedures as practiced by my oncologist allowed me to view areas of my anatomy that nature and god had never intended for me to see. An attachment to the laser allows projection onto a small screen TV so I can view the inside of the vaginal vault as seen by the oncologist and her equipment. I was actually able to identify the cancerous lesions and watch the laser "burning" the tissue and the resulting vapors being vacuumed away. With the help of local anesthetic, there was very little sensation at the time.

When the local anesthetic wore off, it felt like heavy abdominal cramping and a need to go to the bathroom. Like all gynecological traumas, healing time was five to six weeks before resuming normal activities.
